“I've heard of Collagen Induction but I don't know what it is”
Let’s just start by saying that Collagen Induction Therapy IS Microneedling. They are the same thing! I just prefer the term Collagen Induction Therapy (CIT) as it sounds more appealing whilst describing what it achieves!
What is Collagen Induction Therapy/Microneedling?
- Collagen Induction Therapy or Micro-needling involves 0.5mm- 2mm needles mildly puncturing the skin.
- The treatment itself takes 30-60 mins depending on the area being treated.
- Each treatment session should be 4-6 weeks apart and a minimum of 4 sessions is advised.
How does Collagen Induction Therapy work?
- The micro-needles trigger the brain to think that the skin is wounded and as a result the repair system is stimulated. This involves an increase in blood flow (seen as redness) and delivery of nutrients, oxygen and collagen-producing cells. These collagen-producing cells, known as fibroblasts, produce good quality collagen to repair the “wound”. Therefore new, healthy good quality skin is produced while the older skin cells are pushed upwards and exfoliated.
- This is a natural rejuvenation process as the body is encouraged to repair via the natural process.
- Natural rejuvenation is the ideal approach as the treatment results appear natural, last-longer and there is little or no risk of side effects.
- Collagen Induction Therapy will also create micro-channels in the skin such that there are tiny passages to the deeper layers of skin. Dr Natasha Verma optimises the results of the treatment by using medically- proven agents to penetrate these channels working on the deeper layers of the skin, further prolonging the natural results.
What can Collagen Induction Therapy (Microneedling) be used for?
Microneedling/Collagen Induction Therapy can be used on skin of any part of the body.
- It can be used to address mild-moderate scars, including acne scarring. Deeper scarring may require a combination approach involving other treatments simultaneously.
- This treatment can be used to improve signs of ageing by reducing mild-moderate lines and wrinkles and tightening mild-moderate saggy skin.
- As a result of skin tightening, your features can appear more defined such as your cheekbones and jaw-line.
- Hair rejuvenation using Collagen Induction Therapy can treat hair loss and hair thinning by stimulating dormant hair follicles encouraging the production of good quality hair fibres.
- Dr Natasha Verma incorporates agents such as clinically-proven growth factors and other agents to further improve the results of each treatment session.

What are possible side effects after Collagen Induction Therapy?
- Treatment brings about minimal downtime. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave the Skin NV clinic.
- However, you should expect small bumps, mild redness and tenderness at the site of treatment. These effects will settle down within 24-48 hours.
- This treatment stimulates dormant hair follicles that may contain dead hairs. Upon awakening, these hair follicles will produce new hairs pushing the old, dead hairs out. Therefore, there will be hair shedding for a few days post-treatment. This will settle down and new hair fibres will be visible.
