How to get rid of eye bags / dark circles?

dark circle treatment

Dark circles under the eyes will affect us all at some point. Whether it’s tiredness, age, pigmentation or volume loss, looking at how to get rid of eye bags/ dark circles can be frustrating and, depending on the cause, difficult to overcome without treatment.

What causes dark circles?

Whilst many blame a lack of sleep, several factors can contribute to darkness under the eyes. From dehydration, vitamin deficiencies, age, and hyperpigmentation, it’s always helpful to try and identify the root cause of the issue before looking at how to get rid of eye bags/ dark circles.

In terms of treatment, several options are available, but which one is right for you depends on the cause. Here at Skin NV, we will help you identify the cause of your dark circles and identify an effective treatment method to target and treat the under-eye area.

Before selecting a treatment, we will invite you in for a consultation with our experts, who will assess your skin and determine which treatment or combination of treatments will help address your concern.

Here are some of the treatment options available to help combat dark circles.

Chemical Exfoliation

Chemical exfoliation, or chemical peels, is one of the most effective treatment methods available, and they can be used to treat several skin concerns, from pigmentation and acne to dark circles

Besides dead and damaged skin cells, the outermost layer of skin can contain pigment cells, which can contribute to the appearance of dark circles, particularly in those with deeper skin tones and more melanin in the skin.

Chemical peels work by pushing clinically proven active ingredients into the skin to gently dissolve cell bonds and gently remove any dead or damaged skin cells. This brings new, healthy skin cells to the surface, allowing them to receive oxygen and absorb any beneficial nutrients from topical skincare. Overall, this helps to brighten the undereye area and reduce the appearance of dark circles.

Chemical peels take around 40 minutes to complete, and you may need more than one treatment to see results. Chemical peels are non-invasive and, therefore, have no real downtime; however, you may experience slight redness in the skin, which should settle within a few days. Before your treatment, your aesthetic doctor will go through any aftercare protocol to ensure you understand and get the best out of your treatment.

Tear Trough Fillers

Due to their versatility, dermal fillers are one of the most popular treatments. They can restore any lost volume within the skin for a more youthful appearance. Naturally, the skin around the undereye area is thinner than anywhere else on the face, leading to darkness around the eyes and making them appear more hollow or tired.

When used in the tear trough area, dermal filler can add volume to the eye area and is highly effective in treating dark circles.

Treatment should take no longer than 40 minutes; you will see results instantly. No downtime is associated with dermal fillers, but you are advised to rest following treatment and avoid exercise, alcohol, and direct heat, including the sun. You may experience slight swelling, tenderness, and bruising around the injection site, but this should clear within a few days.

Combination Treatments

Here at Skin NV, we understand that everybody’s skin is different; therefore, you may require a combination of treatments to address your concerns. That is why we have created a bespoke package that gives you access to a number of effective treatment methods. Of course, your aesthetic doctor will help you determine exactly which treatments will work for you.

The package includes:

• Chemical exfoliation

• Mesotherapy

• Polynucleotide Injectables

Each system is specifically designed and proven effective in combatting darkness around the eyes.

During your initial consultation, your aesthetic doctor will analyse your skin and recommend a tailored package that will be the most beneficial in addressing your concerns.

At-Home Treatments

At home, treatments may be prescribed either on their own or as part of your treatment plan. Following your initial consultation, our experts will assess your dark circles and design a topical skincare routine that will support your treatment, address any discolouration around the eyes, and support overall skin health.

Your package will consist of a combination of active ingredients tailored specifically to help address your needs and an SPF product to protect the skin from damage and pigmentation caused by the sun.

To ensure you achieve the best results from your skin care program, our experts will advise you on how to effectively apply and layer each product so you get the best results.

Your package may also include our Cyspera mask that can be used alongside your prescribed skincare. Containing cysteamine, an ingredient naturally present within skin tissue, the Cyspera mask helps to lighten pigmentation and is highly effective in hyperpigmentation treatment.
