Teeth Grinding Treatment

Teeth grinding

When it comes to teeth grinding, many of us go through life without realizing we do it until it is pointed out.

Unfortunately, whether it’s a stress mechanism or a subconscious habit, teeth grinding can cause some unpleasant symptoms, including headaches, jaw aches, and even damage to the teeth. Luckily there is a highly effective teeth grinding treatment available to help manage your symptoms.

Teeth grinding and jaw clenching (also known as Bruxism) is a very common concern, especially in those who juggle a busy lifestyle.

For some, teeth grinding can happen when you sleep, for others it may happen subconsciously whilst you are concentrating or stressed. No matter what triggers your teeth grinding, unfortunately, the side effects can cause discomfort in your daily life. The most common side effects are:

• Jaw ache

• Facial aches

• Headaches

• Back pain

• Shoulder pain

• Damage to the teeth

By far, the most effective teeth grinding treatment is Botox. Now, you may be thinking that Botox is an anti-aging treatment, and you are correct. But Botox can actually help with a number of conditions, including teeth grinding.

Botox is a neurotoxic protein that prevents muscles from activating. When delivered in small doses, that muscle can be relaxed, which causes it to move less. When injected into the jaw, Botox relaxes the muscles that are responsible for the clenching or grinding of teeth to effectively relieve tension within the muscle and reduce pain without affecting jaw functionality in any way.

Before booking in for a Botox treatment, you will be invited into the clinic for a pre-consultation. During this session, your aesthetician will assess your concern, and ask you some routine questions about your overall health and lifestyle to determine whether Botox is the right solution for you.

Botox should always be carried out by a trained medical practitioner to avoid any unwanted side effects. During your appointment, your skin will be cleansed using scented Egyptian cotton towels to relax you, and a topical anesthetic will be applied to reduce any discomfort.

Botox is a non-invasive treatment, but as it is administered you may experience slight discomfort, the numbing agent used will help to alleviate this, so all you should feel is slight pressure.

The results take 7-10 days to show and following your appointment, you will be invited back for a follow-up appointment where your aesthetic doctor will assess the treatment area to ensure it is looking as it should. Results last between 3-6 months.
