What is acne?

When looking for an effective acne treatment method, it helps to understand a little more about the condition. Whilst acne commonly is linked to hormonal changes during puberty, it can actually be triggered by a number of factors. In this blog, we will look at the causes of acne, and help you understand the various methods of acne treatment available.

What is acne and what causes it?

Acne refers to breakouts and blemishes on the skin. These blemishes may appear as a couple of spots or a severe breakout that covers the surface of the skin. Sometimes, acne can cause blackheads, whiteheads, red lumps (papules), or pus-filled spots which can lead to scarring on the skin.

Acne and the pigmentation it may leave behind can be difficult to treat and can impact one’s overall self-confidence. Luckily, there are effective acne treatment methods to address the condition.

So, what causes acne? Acne can develop when the pores/ hair follicles become clogged with sebum, dead skin cells and bacteria causing infected lesions. This leads to inflammation and infection which may result in a more severe acne breakout.

Acne usually affects any area on the body with larger oil glands, including the face, back, and neck. Hormonal changes and genetics can play a part in acne development, but it can also be triggered by lifestyle and external factors like skincare, makeup, and sun damage.

We firmly believe that combination treatments are among the most effective methods when it comes to acne treatment. By penetrating the deeper layers of skin, combination treatments help to target acne, combat scarring, and help to manage the condition in the future.

We have developed a six-step Skin NV Acne & Acne Scarring Treatment Package, which can be specifically tailored around you and your individual needs. During your initial consultation, we will analyse your skin and advise exactly which steps will benefit your skin.

The steps include:

Collagen Induction Therapy – Collagen induction therapy helps stimulate new collagen production within the skin to improve overall skin quality, and help combat any acne scarring.

LED Therapy – Helps to target and heal inflammation caused by acne and helps to boost your skin’s response to treatment.

Micro-infusion treatments – Micro-infusion treatments deliver a complex combination of active ingredients and skin-loving vitamins to the dermis and promote skin health from the inside, and out.

Chemical exfoliation treatments – These are highly effective treatments to remove dead skin cells, and acne-causing bacteria from the pores. They can also help to address pigmentation or scarring caused by acne.

Skincare – We will prescribe you at-home medical-grade skincare solutions to help support your acne treatment and maintain your results. Your aesthetic doctor will advise you on how to layer and apply each product for the best results.
