Chemical Peels For Ageing Skin
As we age, our skin begins to show signs of ageing. Common symptoms include wrinkles, sagging skin, age spots and dryness. Fortunately, various anti-ageing treatments can help reduce the appearance of these symptoms and help you maintain healthy and youthful-looking skin as you age.
Chemical peels are one of the most popular anti-ageing treatments available. It’s an effective skin rejuvenation treatment that removes the top layers of skin to stimulate collagen and elastin production, resulting in fresh, healthy, and flawless skin.
Chemical peels are most commonly used on the face but can also be used on the neck, chest, and hands. Different types of chemical peels are available to address specific skin concerns and reduce wrinkles and fine lines.
Why choose chemical peels For Ageing Skin
Chemical peels are clinically proven to effectively rejuvenate the skin by stimulating the body’s natural healing process to increase volume and thickness in the epidermis while reducing uneven skin discolouration caused by sun damage.
There are three levels of chemical peels for ageing skin with varying intensities:
- superficial, which affects only the top layer of skin,
- medium depth, which affects both layers;
- and deep-reaching, which penetrates most dermal tissue for better long-term results.
The strength of the chemical peel will depend on your concerns and desired outcomes.

Types of Chemical Peels
Superficial chemical peels
A superficial peel is the mildest form of a chemical peel. It involves applying a peeling agent to the skin, which destroys part or all of the epidermis. Superficial peels treat minor skin discolorations, uneven skin tone, and mild textural imperfections. These peels are also known as "lunchtime peels" because they are gentle enough to be done quickly with minimal downtime. Alpha hydroxy acids such as glycolic or salicylic acid are commonly used for superficial peels.
Medium chemical peels
Medium peels are more invasive than superficial chemical peels and can cause some downtime. However, they can effectively improve ageing skin, including the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and sunspots. Medium peels work by damaging the outer layer of skin. This damage causes the skin to peel off, exposing new, younger skin underneath. Medium peels also stimulate the production of new collagen, which can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles. Medium chemical peels are most commonly used on the face but can also be used on the neck, chest, and hands.
Deep chemical peels
A deep chemical peel is the most effective way to reduce ageing skin, including the appearance of wrinkles, sun-damaged skin, acne scars, blotchy skin, and actinic keratosis. This chemical peel penetrates down to the lower middle layer of your skin for maximum results. However, it requires a longer recovery time than other chemical peels.
