What Is Sagging Skin?
Sagging skin is a condition in which the skin loses its elasticity and becomes loose. This can make the skin look wrinkled, droopy, and uneven. Sagging skin can occur on any part of the body, but it is most common on the face, neck, and abdomen.
Several factors can contribute to sagging skin, including:
• Age: Our skin loses elasticity as we age, and collagen production slows down. This can lead to sagging skin.
• Weight loss: Rapid weight loss can cause the skin to lose its elasticity and sag.
• Sun exposure: The sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays can damage the skin and make it more likely to sag.
• Genetics: Some people are more prone to sagging skin than others.

Best Treatments For Sagging Skin
There is no one-size-fits-all treatment for sagging skin. The best treatment will vary depending on the severity of the sagging and the underlying cause. Some possible treatments include:
- Dermal fillers involve injecting fillers into the skin to plump it up. This can help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and folds.
- Chemical peels: improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and can also help to tighten the skin.
- Profhilo: an injectable treatment containing high levels of hyaluronic acid that are gradually dispersed, stimulating and enhancing collagen production. Firmer elastin and collagen are created, tightening sagging skin in the mid-face area.
- Microneedling: a small pen-like device creates micro-wounds in the skin. This stimulates the production of elastin and collagen, resulting in firmer and softer skin. The actives in your skincare products will also be more effective post-treatment, penetrating more deeply.
- Polynucleotides act as a wound healing agent, telling the skin to intensely repair itself and reduce scar tissue, including stretch marks. Polynucleotides are an effective treatment for sagging skin with many other benefits that can help improve overall complexion.
- Bio-revitalisation is a non-surgical procedure involving injecting hyaluronic acid, amino acids and peptides into the skin to stimulate collagen production and cell rejuvenation. It helps to reduce wrinkles, improve elasticity and firmness, even out skin tone, treat various skin problems, and hydrate the skin for a more youthful appearance

Step-by-step procedure
Prior To The Treatment
Dr Natasha Verma, an experienced professional, will diligently evaluate your concerns and thoroughly examine your skin health during consultation. Following this comprehensive assessment, she will engage in a detailed discussion to share her insightful observations with you and collaboratively develop a customised treatment plan. Considering the multifaceted nature of potential causes, Dr Verma may recommend an integrated therapeutic approach incorporating various treatment techniques to optimise your results and address your specific needs effectively.
During The Treatment
Should injectable and microneedling treatments be your proposed approach, a topical anaesthetic will be thoughtfully applied before using the appropriate agent or device. This meticulous procedure aims to replenish volume and/or stimulate the production of high-quality collagen, ultimately leading to firmer and healthier skin. In the case of chemical peel treatments, a specialised solution will be carefully applied to your skin, promoting the gentle exfoliation of superficial, lifeless skin cells. This process encourages the emergence of revitalised, taut skin that reflects a healthy and vibrant complexion.
What To Expect
During injectable or microneedling treatment sessions, the application of topical anaesthesia may lead to a gentle sensation of pressure. Similarly, you may experience mild tingling or tickling within chemical peel appointments. Immediate results can often be observed with dermal fillers, providing noticeable changes after treatment. However, for other treatments, the improvements are typically observed gradually over the course of the treatment.
Aftercare
After the treatment, mild tenderness, redness, and bruising may occur, but rest assured that they will typically resolve within 7 days. Dr Verma recommends refraining from touching the treated area for up to 48 hours and adopting a gentle skincare routine for the first 24 hours to facilitate optimal healing. It is advisable to avoid exposure to extreme temperatures, refrain from undergoing additional facial treatments, and prioritise the consistent use of sunscreen as part of your daily routine. These measures will contribute to a soothing recovery process and support long-term results.

Frequently Asked Questions
Why Is My Face Suddenly Sagging?
Loss of collagen across the face causes sagging skin. Collagen decline accelerates at approximately 1% each year after your turn 30. With the treatments listed above, it's possible to reverse the effects and causes of collagen loss, which include sun damage, smoking, ageing, and genetics.
Which Treatment Is Right For Me?
There are degrees of variability depending on the condition of your skin and your exact dermatological needs. During your consultation, we can discuss the range of procedures available and their respective advantages and effects on your skin.
How Often Will I Need Treatment?
The number of treatments you need will depend on your chosen procedure.
An excellent at-home skincare routine using the correct active ingredients for your skin type will help prolong your treatment results. Sun exposure is the leading cause of premature sagging skin, so using SPF 30 – 50 daily will also reduce the rate at which your skin loses its elasticity.
