Hi All,

I hope you are keeping well and safe!

While spending all your time at home during this time, what have you all been doing a lot of?

My answer would have to be watching Netflix and eating! However, I have noticed that I am more aware of what I am eating, are you?

Many foods contain nutrients, vitamins and minerals that help improve your skin health but would you like to know some quick, readily available and tasty snacks that will do the job?

Leave Popcorn & Try These 5 Nuts!

1. Brazil nuts
These nuts are high in selenium which is responsible for preventing sagging of the skin, skin cell repair and defends the skin from radiation from your electronic devices, sunlight and pollution.

2. Almonds
These nuts contain Vitamin E which is stimulates the formation of the skin fibres (collagen), improving the skin structure. It is also an anti-oxidant like Selenium in brazil nuts, so it protects the skin from damage like sunlight and air pollution.

3. Chestnuts
Chestnuts are high in Vitamin C which enhances the effect of selenium in Brazil nuts and like Vitamin E, encourages maturation of skin cell components allowing for healthier skin and less wrinkles. As with the other two nuts, it is a powerful anti-oxidant which protects the skin from the sun.

4. Walnuts
These tree nuts have the highest known levels of anti-oxidants when compared to any other nuts so they provide the utmost protection for your skin. They also contain Omega 3 which supports the skin’s protective barrier, reduces inflammation and promotes wound healing.

5. Pistachios
These little shells filled with goodness contain a large range of minerals and vitamins including Vitamin A, C and E. Vitamin A brings about the specialisation of the cells in the skin so they are formed to perfectly fit their roles. It also helps with pigmentation and healthy hair growth.

Nuts were once shunned for their high fat content, however more recently it has been found that they do not cause weight gain. In fact they have been found to be highly nutritious and control body weight and many other medical conditions.
Most minerals, vitamins and fatty acids are not formed within the body therefore we need to supply them to our bodies through our diet. Nuts are an incredibly easy way to do this; however I always say, everything in moderation. Just have a handful of nuts a day to reap the benefits as excess minerals and vitamins can cause side effects.

How do you eat yours?
I have always been a fan of roasted and lightly salted nuts. The flavour seems to be more intense this way, but does this affect the nutrients with the nuts?
Several studies showed that nuts roasted at low-middle temperatures (120–160 °C) has a higher antioxidant efficacy than raw nuts as the water has been removed leaving concentrated nutrients.
By roasting at higher temperatures, some vitamins can be destroyed so best to avoid this!
To make this all sound even better, each of these nuts also enhance your immune system so let’s take this opportunity to find a way of improving our skin and boosting our immunity!

Enjoy your nutritional and roasted nuts when watching your next Netflix movie!
