Hi all,
I hope you are all well!
You say you have oily skin but how are you so sure?
Our skin types are essential for knowing what products and treatments will suit our skin well. Knowing this, will also help us stay clear of products and treatments that can exacerbate the oily-ness!
There are 4 general skin types:
1) Normal
2) Combination
3) Dry
4) Oily
Oily skin comes about as a result of oversized sebaceous glands that produce too
much sebum (skin’s natural oils).
So how do you know if you have oily skin?
If you:
- Have shiny skin
- Have breakouts
- Less visible lines & wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Make-up doesn’t sit for long without touch-ups,
Then you have an oily skin type.
So what can you do to control your oily skin?
Now is the best time to learn how to manage your oily skin as Summer is around the corner!
- Cleanse twice daily using lukewarm water, a gentle cleanser, and a soft towel to pat dry your skin.
- Avoid rinsing or washing your face too much as this will cause your skin to produce more oils.
- Use salicylic acid within your regime as it breakdown the oils very well and unclogs your pores that often cause breakouts.
- Use a light moisturiser to ensure your skin is hydrated so that it does not feel the need to produce more oil.
- Use light broad-spectrum sunscreen every day.
- Look for oil-free and non-comedogenic products
- Use a Clay mask every 7-14 days to absorb excess oils and unclogs pores.
- Wash your pillowcase weekly as it will absorb a lot of oil from your skin overnight.
- With regards to treatments, Chemical Exfoliation treatments can help reduce oil production, unclogs pores, and manage breakouts.
- Anti wrinkle treatment can reduce the activity of those enlarged and hyperactive sebaceous glands that are responsible for producing excess oil.
