Shine bright like a diya this diwali!

This year for many including myself, Diwali celebrations will feel different. Instead of attending religious events and creating memories with loved ones in person, there will be a lot more staying at home, watching TV and plenty of video calls. Rather than the fancy outfits and jewellery, I’ll probably be in my cosy joggers. Therefore, video calls (being the new normal) with family and friends will mean that my face, neck and hair has more focus. Hence, I want to make sure I put in the extra effort and allow my skin to glow, like all the diyas around my home.

Hi All,

I hope you are well and keeping safe!

For many years, I have suffered from face and body acne, which on many occasions has caused confidence issues in social settings, the workplace and within myself. Therefore, it is very important for me to ensure my skin and routine is on point, so that my acne is kept at bay.

This is what I do, to make sure my skin looks healthy throughout the festivities:

  • Hydrate, hydrate and hydrate some more!

The key to glowing skin starts from within.
This Diwali, like most, my healthy eating will probably be on pause, and my sweet tooth will certainly get a work out! Drinking at least six glasses of water every day [1], will help flush out the toxins and impurities.

  • Cleanse

My skin can be quite oily, so I tend to cleanse my face twice a day using a water based cleanser. When I have makeup on, I find using a cleansing oil works really well, as it removes my makeup easily (and quickly!) compared to water based cleansers.

  • Exfoliate… Very Gently

I like to exfoliate my face and body at least twice a week. The composition of skin on the body and face is quite different, so I need to use two different exfoliators. Gently exfoliating really helps to get rid of layers of dead skin, leading to rejuvenated skin.

  • Moisturise

During the autumn and winter months, my skin becomes much drier, so I moisturise my face twice a day. In the mornings, an SPF50 cream is a must, which I use every day, whatever the weather, as the sun even behind the clouds can be harmful to my sensitive skin. In the evenings, especially in the colder months, I use a face cream with hydrating benefits, as I find it makes my skin feel soft and helps to minimise the dryness on my face.

  • Get That Beauty Sleep!

Around Diwali it’s so easy to lose track of time, whether I’m chatting to friends and family or enjoying the late night fireworks, so getting enough sleep can sometimes be an afterthought. When I do not have enough sleep, my skin looks tired and bags start to show under my eyes. Spraying a lavender pillow mist in my bed, or rubbing some lavender balm on my wrists [2][3], really helps me to get a good night’s sleep.

So there you have it! 5 easy ways to glow on Diwali!

It is very important to ensure you are using the correct products for your skin to help you achieve your skin goals.
The cost of medical grade skincare products was off-putting for me initially. However, after using brands such as Dermaquest and Obagi, I came to realise that although they may be more expensive, they have made the biggest difference in improving the overall look and feel of my skin.
Whilst this is my skincare regime, it may not be suitable for everyone. One of the many lessons I learnt about my skin is that is it so important to speak to the right person. When I spoke to a medical practitioner about my acne, I immediately felt at ease and knew I was in safe hands. Speaking to the right person means you will receive bespoke and effective skincare advice, tailored like any good Indian outfit, just for you!

I Wish You All A Very Happy Diwali!
