“I don't know which Hair loss treatment will help me!”
Hair loss treatments are a very confusing field however, fortunately for you, you have me!
Firstly, you need to do the basics to fully understand what your scalp and hair need. These factors can be found in my blog about Hair loss.
It is important to remember that in-clinic treatments alone will not stimulate hair growth. Simple modifications to your lifestyle will prevent the progression of hair loss whilst the in-clinic hair loss treatment will stimulate any dormant hair follicles, improve blood flow to the scalp and stimulate the production of collagen and elastin, i.e. good quality hair fibres.
Now let’s see what your treatment options are:
What treatments should I consider to treat my hair loss?
- After completing the tasks mentioned above, there are a range of different hair loss treatment options.
- Firstly, you have the surgical options including Hair transplant surgery.
- A non-surgical option is Collagen Induction Therapy.

Other medical treatment include Minoxidil however there are many side effects associated with this treatment and the effects wear off if it is not continued long-term.
Lets compare!
Hair transplant surgery and Collagen Induction Therapy are two very viable options for hair loss treatment however either option will not suit everyone.
Let’s take a look at the risks and benefits of both procedures.
Hair transplant surgery vs Collagen Induction therapy: should you consider surgery for hair loss?
Hair Transplant Surgery:
-
- Involves surgical removal of hair follicles from the back of the head and implanting them in the area of hair loss.
- Risk of bleeding for a day or two post-surgery.
- Higher risk of infections due to surgical micro-incisions created and post-procedure itchy scalp.
- Scalp laxity whereby the scalp skin becomes loose and results in hair fall.
- During the hair transplant procedure, the follicle may become damaged and as a result, an ingrown hair is formed. These hairs can become inflamed and infected and make the outcome appear unnatural.
- Repeat surgery may be required as hair loss will continue with age.
- Immediate results can be noted.
Collagen Induction Therapy:
-
- Encourages natural rejuvenation so no long term side effects
- If haircare and treatments are consistent you may only require annual treatments.
- Does not cost as much as surgery.
- Less risks compared to surgery.
- Results can take a few months to be noticed as hair regrowth is naturally stimulated.
